Create a new template

Overview

While Chronicler does come with some basic starter templates, you might want more for your needs. That’s where the power of custom templates comes into play. You can easily create custom templates, and include the exact statements for your most common therapy scenarios.

Consider this example:

Therapist John has gotten all the way through a progress note when he realizes that he makes almost the exact same note multiple times per week. John wants to save time on those future notes, so he decides to create a template with the statements that he’s selected for his current note.

Note template vs. saving a note

Please keep in mind that a note template does not necessarily contain a verbatim saved note. Instead, a template contains all the statements that you’ve selected to be a part of that template, including any custom statements applied to the note.

Any edits that you make in the note itself are not saved in the template (e.g. if you edit “friction with family member” to “friction with Uncle Jean,” the note template will store “friction with family member”).

This is an important distinction, as note templates are intended to be reusable scaffolds that you can adjust as needed for an individual session. This design also helps to keep sensitive client info in one note from accidentally carrying over to another note when the template is used again.

How to create a template

  1. Create a progress note as you normally would.

  2. Click the “T” in the upper right corner of the Notebuilder when you’ve selected the statements that you need.

  1. Click “Create a new template” in the window that pops up.

  1. Enter a name for your template that reflects the content.

  2. Click “Create.”

  3. You’re all set! The statements that you’ve selected have been saved in your template, which you can easily use for a future note.
